Cut up

Residency & Installation

Whitstable Oyster Festival

Wednesday 25th July 2012, 3-8pm

Another ReAuthoring outing, pairing me up with independent shop Buzz 4 Wool in Whitstable, Kent. Working with words and fabric, and armed with scissors, pins and pens, I created a cut-up text in the shop. Visitors and customers were able to contribute words to the patchwork, view text installations and take away a literary snippet. The installation has remained in the shop since. More on this, the after-party and other writers scribbling, reading and performing in shops on the ReAuthoring website.

Lounge Stories

ReAuthoring Writing Residency

5th - 9th July 2012

Lounge on the Farm Festival, Merton Lane, Canterbury

I was one of six ReAuthoring writers let loose on the unsuspecting public at this boutique arts festival. Roaming the field, I collated and appropriated overheard conversations, found text, sights, sounds and smells, working these into flash fiction and poetry. To read the results, view my posts on tumblr or visit the Festivalstories.org portfolio.

An Evening of Spoken Word

Mon 21st November 2011, 7pm

Millenium of the Sack of Canterbury

Canterbury Festival umbrella event

Sunday 16th October

Canterbury, Kent

My poem Unready was been selected for publication in an anthology marking 1000 years since the Siege of Canterbury. I read the poem at a Canterbury Festival umbrella event on 16th October 2011, where it was awarded second prize in the 'Save As' Festival competition. Here's what judge Christopher Hobday had to say about the poem:

"[This] poem managed to make the events [of the siege] uniquely personal. It didn't just tell us what happened; it seemed to climb inside the head of one of the principle protagonists. It did this with a grace, a richness and an impact that draws you in, delights you and convinces you of its own truth. When a poet can build a little world, make you live in it, and then leave you feeling like it wasn't sleight of hand, this is real talent."

The Siege of Canterbury anthology is available for purchase.

Crossings*

Live Lit Performance

Sat 27th August 2011

Herne Bay, Kent

From the intriguing world of The Reauthoring Project, who seek innovative ways of transforming the traditionally dull author reading into something interactive and multi-sensory. Our experiments in performance and live literature over a workshop weekend came to fruition at Herne Bay Reauthored on Saturday 27th August. I was one of the five authors giving live presentations of reauthored work in outdoor locations as part of the Herne Bay Festival. Site-specific performance, challenged by weather and the whims of the public, with the sea roaring a few feet away - why not?

3 performances during the afternoon, plus an open forum

for more details visit
The Reauthoring Project

* Crossings is a performance piece drawn from my poem (I am the first), which appears in the Canterbury Festival Poetry Anthology 2011.
